Description:
Cisco Systems Catalyst WS-C4948-10GE-S, 10 Gigabit Ethernet
Switching for High-Performance, Rack-Optimized Server Switching.
The
Cisco Systems WS-C494810GE-S 10 gigabit ethernet elite performance
switch offers a rack-optimized 48-port 10/100/1000 ethernet
1 rack space unit switch. The Cisco® Catalyst® 4948-10GE
switch provides all of the following:
-
A low-latency, 48-port 10/100/1000, 1-rack space unit (1RU),
fixed-design switch
- 2 wire-speeds of 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks for rack-optimized
server switching programs.
- Outstanding presentation and dependability for both Layer
2 and Layer 3 server switching installations
The
entire spectrum of Cisco Catalyst 4900 Series Switches are Layer
2-4 fixed-design machines that provide optimum performance for
banks, data centers, and branch cores. This 4900 series gives
the features that are sought after most by network administrators,
network designers, and network maintenance engineers in the
data center environment. With low latency combined with high
performance, the 4900 series provides an ideal feature set in
a slim, 1-rack unit (1RU) form factor.
The Cisco
Catalyst 4948-10GE distributes wire-speed throughput with little
latency (network lag or slowness) for data-rigorous programs
using a 136-Gbps (Giga bit per second) switching fabric and
a 102-million packets per second (mpps) forwarding speed in
hardware for Layer 2–4 traffic.
Towering
performance switching is provided despite the number of route
entries, or Layer 3 and Layer 4 services facilitated. Hardware-based
Cisco Express Forwarding (CEF) routing structural design permits
for increased scalability and routine functionality. Two (2)
10 Gigabit Ethernet optics (optical ports) afford 20 Gigabit
Ethernet wire-speed uplinks for greatest throughput of IP traffic.
The
standard IOS (Internetworking Operating System) for the Cisco
WS-C4948-10GE-S is IPB software, and it comes hard-wired with
one (1) AC (Alternating Current) power supply.

PRINCIPAL
HARDWARE CAPABILITIES:
- Wire-velocity
presentation for 10/100/1000 auto-switching connectivity and
wire-velocity 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports
– 136-Gbps (Giga bit per second) switching fabric with
102-Mpps (million packets per second) speed forwarding rate
for Layers 2 through 4 on the WS-C4948-10GE-S switch
- Power-supply redundancy for uninterrupted functioning is available,
with the single AC power supply
– 1+1 redundant hot-swappable (during production or deployment)
internal AC (Alternating Current) or DC (Direct Current) power
supplies.
PRODUCT
OVERVIEW:
The Cisco
Catalyst 4948-10GE transports wire-velocity throughput with
very low lag for information-intensive programs that utilize
a 136-Gbps (Giga bit per second) switching fabric with a 102-million
packets per second (mpps) forwarding pace in hardware for Layer
2-4 internet protocol traffic.
Soaring-performance
switching is given despite the amount of route entries, or Layer
3 and Layer 4 services that are enabled. Hardware-based Cisco
Express Forwarding (CEF) routing design plans for heightened
scalability and routine operational functions. X2 10 Gigabit
Ethernet optics are supplied with 20 Gigabit Ethernet wire-velocity
uplink ports for maximum throughput of IP interchange.

CATALYST
4948-10GE-S SOFTWARE IOS:
CISCO IOS SOFTWARE RELEASE 12.2(25) EWA SUPPORT
New Release Software Feature Set includes:
- Per-Port, Per-VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) Quality of
Service (QoS)
- Per-port, per-VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) quality of
service (QoS) provides segmented excellence of services to individual
VLANs on a trunk or access port. This software IOS (Internetworking
Operating System) allocates internet service providers and data
centers to pace-limit individual VLAN-based capabilities on
each trunk port to a business or a residential home. Per-port,
per-VLAN service policy can be individually used to either ingress
or egress types of internet protocol traffic.
Trunk-Port Defense
Trunk-port defense broadens the port safety measures to trunk
ports on a per-VLAN starting point. Trunk-port defense on the
4948-10GE-S restricts the permitted MAC addresses or the utmost
amount of MAC addresses to separate VLANs (Virtual Local Area
Networks) on an individual trunk port. Trunk-port defense assists
internet service providers to obstruct the right to use from
a station with a different MAC address than the ones specified
for that VLAN on that particular trunk port. When a trunk-port
defense intrusion happens, the trunk port is either shut down,
or an SNMP ambush is produced. Trunk-port defense is also maintained
on private VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) trunk ports.
802.1x Private VLAN Project
The 802.1x private VLAN (PVLAN) project aspect broadens 802.1x
VLAN assignment to the PVLAN (Private Virtual Local Area Network)
atmosphere for Layer 2 seclusion. When a port is programmed
as a PVLAN host port, 802.1x PVLAN assignment gives permission
to a user to a specified inferior PVLAN. This function can not
be enabled concomitantly on a port with a voice VLAN.
802.1x Private Visitor VLAN
The 802.1x private visitor VLAN capability expands 802.1x visitor
VLAN to the PVLAN setting for Layer 2 solitude. When a port
is configured as a PVLAN host port, 802.1x private guest VLAN
offers restricted network access through a visitor inferior
PVLAN to users without a 802.1x petitioner.
802.1x RADIUS-Supplied Conference Timeout
The 802.1x RADIUS-supplied timeout function permits a switch
to determine the interval of a session/conference and the steps
to acquire when the session's timer concludes. Based on the
assessment specified by a RADIUS server, a Cisco Catalyst 4500
Series Switch can reauthenticate its permission on a host when
the timer finishes. This capability provides a regular instrument
for episodic 802.1x reauthentication based on a programmable
timer.
Installation
of Gigabit Ethernet Modules on WS-C4948-10GE-S:

Dynamic Host Arrangement Protocol “Option 82”
Pass Through
“Option 82” in a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP) message is typically used to transmit supplementary local
data for user-access following and tracking. Option 82 is normally
implemented or paused by an access switch or a DSL access multiplexer
(DSLAM) in a service provider or data center environment. Multiplexing
uses the process of converting square waves into sine waves,
in effect, removing the undesirable network results of noise
to a channelized, cleaner signal. The DHCP option 82 pass-through
function assists enable the Cisco Catalyst 4900 Series to successfully
transfer these DHCP messages with option 82 in the aggregate
layer. The option can be set in motion via switch global programming.
Routing Data Protocol Version 2 SNMP MIB
Read-only Routing Information Protocol (RIP) Version 2 SNMP
MIB extension (RFC 1724) is continuous.
