LAN, MAN, & WAN

Nortel Application Switches, Accelerators, and WAN optimization network appliances deliver application availability, performance and security by balancing, accelerating traffic. Nortel Application Switches are designed for network load balancing and application acceleration, and control over applications. Nortel offers five models for a variety of network sizes, port density and type, and security acceleration. Nortel Application Switches support voice, data, and video even in the event of link, node, and site failures by using true active/active failover.

Nortel WAN Optimization network appliances improve virtually any application response time by as much as 50 times over WAN. WAN optimization is achieved through reduction in bandwidth requirements and server utilization, patented advanced compression, transport optimization, delta caching, TCP protocol optimization and SSL acceleration. Nortel's WAN Optimization appliances are comprised of Application Accelerators 510 and 610, the Mobile Client Accelerator, and the Optical Metro 5130.

Nortel Ethernet Routing Switches (ERS) are designed to securely deliver Layer 2 and 3 connectivity for converged networking. Nortel's VoIP and WLAN modular appliances are stackable Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) switches that come in a variety of densities. They offer 10/100 and 10/100/1000 interfaces for a wide range of customer budgets and performance requirements.

Nortel Multiservice Switches (MSS) simultaneously support several networking technologies such as ATM, Frame Relay, IP, and voice technologies.

Nortel Secure Routers secure end-to-end converged solutions are designed for enterprises requiring high-speed Internet or private WAN connectivity. The Secure Routers successfully combine robust IP routing, flexible WAN connectivity, and security in a single device. They are ideal for enterprise branches, remote, or regional site environments as they  deliver low-latency, high packet throughput required by IP telephony, and multimedia applications.

Nortel Secure Routers include advanced security features such as Virtual Private Networking (VPN), stateful packet inspection firewall, encryption, authentication, access controls, network address translation (NAT), and virtual local area network (VLAN) tagging and forwarding protection.

Optical Networks

Nortel's Multiservice SONET/SDH network appliances provide Fast Ethernet speed with the reach and robustness of optical technologies. As they deliver Ethernet Connectivity Services, they maintain efficient transport of legacy traffic.

Nortel's Optical Ethernet appliances allow Service Providers to seamlessly address the demand for increasing bandwidth and strict performance in metropolitan networks. Advanced Ethernet capabilities of optical networking products enable wireless video and data, and Ethernet business connectivity.

Nortel's Optical Switches offer global, scalable, multiservice, high-density optical switches. They also provide non-blocking cross-connect capability and deliver grooming, aggregation, and restoration of SONET/SDH, transparent wavelengths and Ethernet services. The platforms also offer extensive subtending ring capability for efficient nodal consolidation applications.

Nortel's Wavelength Division Multiplexer (WDM) combines multiple streams of information (wavelengths) for transmission across a single physical connection. A WDM infrastructure is ideal in situations where fiber is expensive, for applications requiring large amounts of bandwidth, or when storage or flexible service rate transport is required.

Phones, Clients, and Accessories

The Business Series Terminals are durable, reliable, and flexible. The Business Series Terminals support both the Business Communications Manager and Norstar Telephone systems with full backward-compatibility. They can be added to your existing voice infrastructure to cost-effectively scale voice connectivity.

Nortel M3900 Series Meridian Digital Telephones bring the functionality of Meridian 1 and Meridian SL-100 to the desktop with display-based interfaces, call log, self-labeling keys, and simplified administration.  The M3900 Series offers five models and a variety of accessories to meet diverse features, ease of use, and productivity.

Nortel IP Phones and Clients support most telephony features and applications for varying communication needs which include: IP Phones for the desk, IP soft clients which support PC's or mobile devices, and Voice over Wireless LAN handsets. 

Nortel’s wireless phones set the standard for durability, reliability and flexibility.  These wireless phones are comprised of a variety of mobile handsets that support either digital or IP telephony protocols.  The following accessories include: headsets, belt clips, chargers, and carrying cases.

Security & VPN

The Switched Firewall appliances are ideal for voice and multimedia environments and built to protect network applications, services, and multimedia (VoIP and video) applications from hackers, attacks, worms and viruses in IT data centers, service provider networks, and hosting infrastructures. The Switched Firewall, based on Check Point Firewall-1 technology, also leverages Check Point Secure XL technology for high performance acceleration.

The Intrusion Prevention appliances provide intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS) by protecting networks against hackers, vulnerabilities, worms and viruses. These appliances come with Threat Protection Systems (TPS) which incorporates key technology from Sourcefire. Sourcefire technology utilizes Snort - an open source intrusion detection engine. As part of the Nortel Layered Defense architecture, the Threat Protection System automatically blocks attacks using the Switched Firewall Application Switch, Secure Network Access Switch, Secure Router, and VPN Gateway as enforcement points in the network. Together, they provide total threat protection.

The Nortel Secure Network Access Switch (SNAS) 4050 delivers endpoint security through unified access policy and network access control (NAC) for wired, wireless, and mobile users. Acting as a centralized controller, it controls and automates network access for both managed and unmanaged users and devices. The SNAS 4050 is tightly integrated with network access elements as it supports the Nortel Secure Network Access (SNA) solution. These network elements, including Nortel Ethernet Routing Switches, WLAN controllers, VPN Gateways and other third-party edge devices, deliver flexible infrastructure enforcement options including both VLAN and/or access control list traffic filters.

The Nortel IPsec & SSL VPN appliances provide secure connectivity across the Internet and other public IP network.  They are made up of the Nortel VPN Router, VPN Gateway, and Secure Router product lines which offer both remote-access and site-to-site VPN capabilities.

Nortel's Communication and Application Servers consists of telephony and converged IP telephony solutions which deliver seamless, scalable real-time customer and business communications.
