The Cisco
Catalyst 6500 and 6500-E Series maximizes user productivity and
enhances operational control as it provides maximum investment
protection. This is a multi-layer affordable modular switch that
delivers scalability performance, security, converged, end-to-end
services, port density across several chassis configurations and
LAN/WAN/MAN interfaces. It has a 9-slot chassis for multi-gigabit
network security, content switching, and telephony. The Cisco Catalyst E Series Chassis has increased power
scalability for maximum PoE port density per chassis. As for the
hardware compatibility, all existing supervisors, line cards, and
switch fabrics support E and non E-series chassis (providing common
sparing). Non-E chassis software is supported on the E Series
chassis. This 9-slot switching platform is designed to scale beyond
4000W power supply configurations.
In the future, expect it to support 6000W power supplies. The
minimum power supply for the 9-slot chassis is 2500W or higher for
either AC or DC. It sets the standard for converged data, voice, and
video networks.
For the Cisco Catalyst 6500 and 6500-E Series, the
highest port density is 10 Gb, 1 Gb, and fast Ethernet and PoE
ports. It has up to 720 Gbps of switching capacity with packet
throughput scalable to 425 Mpps Ipv4 (200 Mpps IPv6).
Power supplies, accessories, rack mount kits, and
other supplies are available to add to Cisco’s WS-C6509-E.
