The Cisco uBR7200 Series MC28U Broadband Processing Engine is a cable line card that brings new choices and capabilities to the Cisco uBR7246VXR Universal Broadband Router platform. The line card features dedicated media access control (MAC) layer hardware for maximum performance in large-scale cable deployments. The line card offers two downstream modulators, an integrated eight upstream burst receivers on a single line card that embeds the most advanced Radio Frequency (RF) capabilities for the Cisco uBR7246VXR.

In Cisco IOS Release 12.2(15)CX, the downstream ports support 64-QAM and 256-QAM, and the upstream ports support QPSK, 8-QAM, 16-QAM, 32-QAM, and 64-QAM modulation, depending on the upstream's mode of operation. The Cisco uBR-MC28U is one of the new Broadband Processing Engine (BPE) series of cable interfaces that are available for the Cisco uBR7246VXR universal broadband router. This BPE card provides increased performance and advanced Radio Frequency (RF) management, as well as innovative, integrated tools for sophisticated content, traffic and network management.

Cisco’s uBR-MC28U and uBR-MC28X Broadband Processing Engine Cards are designed for the Cisco uBR7246VXR Universal Broadband Router. The BPE cards provide:

• Increased performance

• Advanced Radio Frequency (RF) management

• Integrated tools for sophisticated content

• Traffic/network management

Use it for both DOCSIS- and Euro-DOCSIS-based networks. You’ll be able to transmit bidirectional voice, data, and video services.

Since this product is part of the Cisco uBR7200 Series, you use it with the Cisco uBR7246VXR Universal Broadband Router which supports up to 10,000 subscribers per chassis with 3.2 Gbps back plane.
