Cisco’s high-end 7200 Series Network Processing
Engine NPE-G1 is 250% faster than Cisco’s 7200 NPE-400
Processing Engine. It generates up to one million packets per
second (PPS) in Cisco Express Forwarding switching.
This engine has three Gigabit Ethernet/Fast
Ethernet ports (which do not take up bandwidth points) and comes
with 1 GB of DRAM. It also eliminates the requirement for an
input/output (I/O) controller and I/O controller LAN interface
bandwidth points. You can easily upgrade this modular processor.
The Cisco NPE-G1 is designed to deploy IP
security virtual private networking, WAN edge, multi-protocol
label switching, broadband aggregation, and voice/video/data
integration.
The Cisco 7200 Series Network Processing Engine
NPE-G1 (NPE-G1) addresses the demand for performance and
flexibility by doubling its processing capacity and enabling
unprecedented LAN performance. Benefits of the NPE-G1 include
the following: provides performance of up to 1 million packets
per second (PPS) in Cisco Express Forwarding switching (an
increase of up to 250 percent over the Cisco 7200 Series
NPE-400), offers three Gigabit Ethernet/Fast Ethernet ports that
do not take up bandwidth points, doubles the amount of available
DRAM (to 1 GB), eliminates the requirement for an input/output
(I/O) controller, eliminates I/O controller LAN interface
bandwidth points, provides modular processors and the ability to
upgrade, offers improved price performance.
The network processing engine maintains and
executes the system management functions for the routers. It
also shares the system memory and environmental monitoring
functions with the I/O controller.

accessories, IPSec encryption modules, and robust Cisco firewall
appliances. The Cisco 7200 VXR series supports Gatekeeper and
IP-to-IP Gateway functionality. All used Cisco equipment is
fully tested and comes with a limited warranty.
