Cisco’s Catalyst 6500 Series are top-of-the-line switching platforms that
are designed for medium-sized businesses and network-wide deployments.
The Catalyst 6000 Family supports a number of features designed to protect customer
investments. Both the Catalyst 6000 and 6500 Series support the same line-card modules, supervisors, and
power supplies, enabling common sparing and cost-effective performance upgrades. Interface
flexibility is supported on all Gigabit Ethernet ports, such that interface requirement changes do not require a
completely new module, but can be satisfied by a simple Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) change. And since the
Catalyst 6000 Family leverages the industry-leading software and management infrastructure of the Catalyst
family, customers can apply their existing knowledge of Cisco IOS, command-line interface (CLI), CWSI, and CRM
tools without the need to learn a new CLI or management system. Modular chassis within both Catalyst 6000 and
6500 Series, are offering slot densities of 6- and 9-slot systems. Catalyst 6006, 6009, 6506, and 6509
support a wide range of configuration and price/performance options. Both switches series support
the same suite of supervisors, interface line cards, and common equipment, easing sparing requirements and
protecting investments with upward performance migration.
